Commenting, proofreading, and so on

What happens if you look at a tune, and see what looks like a glaring mistake ? Or if you know things about that tune that the original contributor doesn't seem to, or at least hasn't mentioned ?

I've justified the need for a login system by saying that I don't want competition over who overwrites what. but of course, correction is not necessarily conflict. Genuine mistakes do happen, typos can be overlooked, not everyone's knowledge is complete and perfect all of the time ... One of the nicest things about my previous collection has been the way that many people have done me the favour of pointing such things out and adding their own knowledge into it. It would be nice if this site could provide a good way for its users to get in touch with each other, by way of encouraging such processes.

But this is a difficult area, with many risks of abuse, spam, etc, which I'm not ready to deal with, and may never be. Notice, in similar vein, the statement that the "emergency" email address asked for in the registration process will not be used for any other purpose; that includes even such benign cases as this - it isn't published, and I won't use it to pass any such messages on to other users, so please don't ask.

Which leaves us with only one way of doing this, which is that if people want to be contacted in this connection, it's up to them to tell us how, by writing something in the 'About' text of the "account settings" configuration page - an address, a link to an external website that has contact info, whatever you think best. In case you haven't noticed yet, I'm trying to suggest that this would be a good move; but do also remember that if you put a plainly readable email address on a web-page, it will only be a matter of time before it gets harvested for the junk lists. Nothing new here, anybody with a working email address knows the problem already; mangle it however you like, do whatever you do in such cases, notice that I'm not insisting on it and don't give one if you really don't want to, but please do be encouraged to. To have other people noticing your mistakes and telling you things you don't know is a great benefit.

And conversely, of course, if any readers do notice anything that they have a helpful comment on, please look at the 'about' link to see if there's a way of letting them know.
